As Bad As You Want To Breathe

What do we really want in life? Where are our true desires, and how bad do we truly desire them?

At church, we’ve been having fall revival this week and learning about all kinds of insightful topics like this. Last night’s subject was desire, and we talked about questions like the ones above.

Our desires, depending on how strong they are, should throw us into action and change. They heavily influence our will, our love and our affection. Desires produce results, and get us answers.

But we’ll have to give up some things if we want other things. We make sacrifices for our true desires.

Spiritual desires can be compared to physical desires, like hunger. Many times, we go the extra mile to fulfill our desire to eat. We take time out of our day to cook complicated meals and eat them, we spend hours at the grocery store, we crawl out of bed in our pajamas and stumble to the fridge to get that coveted midnight snack.

That just shows how, when we really want something, we will go vast measures to get it. I read an inspiring quote from Bath & Body Work's Instagram page the other day along the same lines.

“If you can’t stop thinking about it, don’t ever stop working for it.”

We all know that, when we’re really hungry, we’ll do anything to be able to eat again. Like in some of those survival stories where people do things like eat ants and roaches and use drastic measures to hunt down the first animal they see.

Of course, we eat not only because we want to, but because we have to. But that brings up another point- when we want to succeed badly enough, it becomes a need. There’s no other option but to win. We absolutely have to. Everything will be lost if we don’t.

A few good quotes we also heard last night:

“Your desire to change must be greater than your desire to stay the same.”

“Weak desires bring weak results.”

“Your potential is defined by your desire.”

“Want it as bad as you want to breathe.”
