Mom's Mashed Potatoes



Last Saturday, I attempted to make mashed potatoes (for Sunday dinner the next day). But I didn’t realize I needed to chop them up before I boiled them, so I boiled them whole. As a result, they took a lot longer to cook and were really difficult to mash up afterwards.

Actually, the mashing was so intense that my arm was sore the next day. Alicia found potato remnants on the floor on the other side of the kitchen. Also, I found some in my hair afterwards (which I had just washed).

They turned out tasting fine, but they were still too chunky for me. And I hate chunky mashed potatoes, so obviously I’m going to have to keep practicing at this recipe.

Mom, on the other hand, makes them for every holiday dinner ever and they turn out perfectly smooth and immaculate. 



Mom’s Mashed Potatoes
Serves 4-5.
 


-4-5 potatoes

-¼ cup sour cream

-½ cup milk

-1 stick (½ cup) butter

-½ ranch dressing packet

-salt and pepper to taste

-garlic salt or other desired seasonings

Peel and wash the potatoes. Chop them into small pieces. Boil until soft. Transfer them to a large bowl and mash (preferably more gracefully than I did). Mix in a standing mixer with butter, milk, sour cream and the ranch packet. Stir and season.
